Memorial.Day.Drunk | 5 Reasons You Won’t Quit Boozing

It’s 8:14am the Tuesday after Memorial Day weekend. How are you feeling? Throughout the circus of a booze-filled-bender-weekend surrounded by shrouds of false honor and coronas comes the afterbirth. No matter how many days in a row you keep the show rolling, the hangover comes. The guilt. The sickness. The confusion. The disorientation. The weakness. The coy laughter. The jokes.

The hilarious, yet pathetic inside jokes that come from a bender weekend last a lifetime. I’m not saying everyone should quit alcohol today, or everyone needs to.

I’m fully confident in what alcohol fundamentally does to you though, as I have seen what it did to me and others, and I feel a responsibility to help people see that they might think they are the problem in their minds eye, when in reality the problem is literally in their hand (or both hands if you’re double fisting/Edward 40hands), and it goes down good in the sun.

Reason Number 5 Why You Won’t Quit Boozing- Your Friends

How will you continue to show you can hang? How will you continue to make them laugh? You never had any friends like the friends you have when you’re wasted. You think that your friends will be disappointed in you if you don’t hold up your end of the poisoning. Who wants to be friends with someone who can’t control their own life.

Get drunk enough, you won’t find anyone who chooses to be around you.

Reason Number 4 Why You Won’t Quit Boozing- You Love Your Drunk Self

There is a strange demonic fracture of your self when you cross over the line of being a real boozer. There is a bell curve of tolerance that you may have watched an alchy ride up, and then back down. Been there. I even have a backup, made-up party version of myself named Rej. I thought I loved him more than I loved myself.

Do you love your drunk self more than you do your sober self?

Reason Number 3 Why You Won’t Quit Boozing- It Gives You an Excuse for Anything

If you aren’t hungover, you won’t be able to tell yourself it’s ok for skipping that workout. You won’t be able to blame your ex for your problems. You won’t be able to blame your issues on the government. You won’t be able to say you could do it better than the guy on TV, when in reality you’re too drunk to finish the argument you started with a stranger.

You won’t be able to drown your guilt. You might actual feel something.

Reason Number 2 Why You Won’t Quit Boozing – You Forgot Who You Were Before You Drank

Who were you before you picked up that first beer? Do you remember your first drunk? Do you remember the first time you puked? If you think hard enough, you had an identity without alcohol that was in the process of being formed. Did you give up? Who did you give up on?

You already gave up on your real self.. Why can’t you give up your drunk shitty self? lol.

Reason Number 1 Why You Won’t Quit Boozing – You Are Yellah.

It takes a whole lot of fucking balls to face your dark side. Many individuals get so shrouded in the dark veil of alcoholism and addiction that their overall self is overcome with emotion and confusion to a level that causes them to take both lives…the drunk self along with the real self.

Don’t be afraid to face your darkness and don’t be afraid to find your higher self.

Luckily right now, thanks to a supportive troop of life soldiers I have around me, I’ve made it out of the dark at least for now. The darkness and laughter never leaves you. The experiences I had ‘living the dream’ weren’t all bad. I’ve seen and experienced things I never would have without alcohol. That goes both ways, good and evil.

It’s 8:37am on the Tuesday morning after Memorial Day and I’m writing about why you shouldn’t drink, technically many people could say I might be on the negative side.

But there was a time where I’d be hurting right now. Probably almost half my life I would be drudging through and mentally preparing myself for surviving through work today and looking forward to the next buzz. Having dark moments of laughter to help myself feel less guilty for poisoning myself for 72 hours straight. Texting my buddies the craziest shit I saw all weekend. Telling myself that embarrassing shit I did was for the sake of comedy so it’s cool.

Trust me when I say, quitting alcohol for me was necessary, but it was still my own choice, and it was quite possibly the best choice I’ve ever made in my entire life. It’s never too late to choose the right path for yourself.

You only get one life, start living it. Never give up on yourself. Give up on your drunk self though, and you’ll see what you always saw.. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!!
