What’s the difference between a privately owned prison and a publicly traded company?
People are waking up. Slowly.
Disgusting aspects of our society that have plagued us for generations have come to light. Some aspects more vividly than others.
Most recently two of the most vivid to come to light personally have been the Gamestop/Hedgefund War of 2021 and the Executive order to terminate private prison contracts.
I have long been confused and disillusioned by the reality of being a citizen of the United States. I love my country, and I love my fellow Americans, but I have always found challenge in feeling like I loved what I had to look forward to. I’ve always sorta felt like I’m waiting for that Red Pill / Blue Pill moment.
Between 2020 and 2021.. You’ve gotta be ready for your red pill by now.
Currently I love what I do for a living. I work for a privately owned small business helping other privately owned small businesses. I have done this for my current employer for 6 years this March.
But I didn’t always love what I did.
My first 3 jobs were Express, JC Penney, and Olive Garden.
Anyone who has worked in a corporate restaurant or a corporate retail store knows the grind. What always really bothered me was the bullshit. The uniform. The pestering manager. The rules. The up sells. The credit card goals. The menial tasks.
Much like the lead character in ROSTERED ON (Great Show)….I spent a lot of time depressed thinking is this it? Will this be all I ever do?
Luckily I was able to find a boss who had oddly been through this same grind in the corporate Darden server/bartender world. He’d started his own company years prior. I found my out. I’m lucky, and grateful. This blog wasn’t meant to be all about me, but I needed to provide the reader with a bit of context prior to my next commentary.
Not everyone is so lucky.
I recently saw this photo making it’s way into my feed. There are other versions of it. I’d seen it before. But this week when I saw it it hit me a bit different.
So it’s great that there are this many places in which a person with a felony could work, I support people bettering themselves OBVIOUSLY..
BUT….
What do you notice about all of these places? Every one of them, obviously, is a corporation. They are some of the BIGGEST corporations you know. The same companies you see on TV during commercials. The same companies that popup while you’re trying to read the news. You’ve probably either worked at, or applied to at least one company on this list in your life.
Olive Garden, and JC Penney are 2 that I know personally. I worked in them for 10 years. I was never a felon, I just wanted work. I just wanted purpose. I just wanted the American Dream. What I felt like working for those companies wasn’t the American Dream. I always felt like I was a prisoner.
I felt purposeless. I felt trapped. I felt no future. I wasn’t in a jail, but it felt like a life sentence. How would I escape? I’m sure others have felt this same way.
I had a degree, had felt purpose with athletics before, but this was a cold hard awakening. I had done everything according to the way I was asked. Kept my nose clean, kept grades up, got the paper, and this is all I got?
Anyone who has worked for a company of which they may have felt like they weren’t a part of a bigger intention could feel this way. Someone else may be extremely grateful for the opportunity to work for a company on this list, and that is not a bad thing. Or is it?
There are millions of people working for these corporations and putting food on the table because of it. Millions of people with the same sentence.
Why is it this way? Does it have to be? What will this look like in the future?
Though I don’t work for Olive Garden anymore, that dark shadow that is the “Elite” seems to be peering over us like a dark cloud once again. It feels hopeless. But it also feels like the elite are afraid right now, as people are waking up to the lies, and facade they’ve been so proud to represent for so long.
When I saw this photo in context to the wake up call that is hitting this country right now, I realized something..
There’s really not that much difference between a privately owned prison, and a publicly traded company.

What will you do to be the change? Who will you work for? The Corporate Elite? Or We The People? Personally I think it’s time to destroy the American Facade.
