A Letter to Conor McGregor

The Tryin Times is dedicated to overcoming personal adversity, growing into a new version of yourself, and being the best version of the you that the Creator provided this matrix of a life we all live. I am, like you, the reader, am on a constant quest to survive and advance… but it is in the yearning to be better and challenge myself to be great, that I find that zone, that sweet spot, where the hum feels like an engine “clicking on all cylinders.” We chase that. We study those on the big screen, those larger than life, those practicers of greatness who embody the mind body and soul we all strive for.

As Jon Anik put it, there are “many Imitators of greats like Conor McGregor, but few duplicators.”

I, like many of you reading this, have found disappointment and degradation in some of the things that Conor McGregor has done, but I also have seen an ignition of spirit and encapsulating pursuit of greatness. A desire and thirst for more. The most possible. He is more than a fighter. He is incredible at being himself. Sometimes to a fault.

I am a believer. I believe what we do in this life echoes in eternity. I believe that people ignite us, and even if we don’t know it, somehow… we do the same for them. Being famous means being atop the mountain of perception. People begin to seek how to perceive themselves and those around them through the people at the top of the mountain.

How often do the people at the top of the mountain get to talk to the version of themselves at the bottom? The version who fought and scrapped. The version who didn’t know this “top of the mountain” version of themselves?

I am writing this letter to one of my idols in this matrix, in hopes it reaches him and helps him do what he did for me. Inspire me to be the best version of myself, visualize a future more beautiful than I can ever imagine, and to never give up. Conor McGregor win or lose has done that for me.. and MILLIONS.

I believe this is the Lord’s work, showing signs of karma, and showing Conor what he needs to see in order to get what he wants, which is what Dustin Poirier has found, possibly from his first loss to Conor.

I tweeted this out a few minutes ago, which inspired this blog/matrix letter to Mystic Mac. below. Cheers for reading and have a beautiful day everyone.

Dear Conor,

I’ve watched you climb the mountain. I’ve watched you, studied you, admired you, and, in some short moments of weakness..you’ve also made me sick. But you are human. That is what makes you so relatable. You are, an inspiration to millions. This is your final opponent. Your final opponent, of which you’ve never defeated in all your fights and in all your struggle. This is where you can choose to be great, or choose to rot. What side will you choose?

I see your struggle right now. You are a man who has achieved more than any other fighter ever in the sport, and still feel inadequate. You feel as though you need to prove yourself. To who? Who do you have left? You’ve proven your peak was better than 2 weight classes. You’ve proven you can climb. You’ve proven you can chase and kill. You’ve proven you can attain fame. You’ve proven you can make money.

What is it that Dustin has?

No belt?

Not nearly the $?

Not nearly the adoration?

I believe it is his leadership and mindset you seek. He has found balance. He has found family. He has found service to good. He has realigned his quest and begun a life of servitude to something greater than him, UFC, or beating you ever could. Prove it to yourself you can attain this mindset and evolution of self, and defeat the worst parts of yourself.

Right before your leg snapped… I knew you were going to be coming back out of the round-change with more. I knew that you were either going to knock him out, or he would beat you again. You were going to go out with no fear, balls to the wall.

But none of us knew your leg would give out and snap…. before you could lose.

I think God gave you this.

One last chance to go out on top, and walk away from the sport with dignity, and realign your goals and mission from yourself, to the world you have worked so hard to have in the palm of your hand.

Your next moves will either inspire, or make people forget about you.

Why did you work this hard to put the worlds ears at your lips, if you have nothing good to say?

What would the younger you tell you this morning?

I think it would say, get up, be better tomorrow than you were today, and get back on the quest of BEING WHO YOU ARE. YOU ARE A LEADER. YOU ARE A WARRIOR. YOU ARE AN IRISHMAN. YOU ARE A FIGHTER. YOU EARNED YOUR VOICE, NOW IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO USE IT FOR GOOD, OR LOSE IT.

Now lead yourself to the victory of life, and accept, that every athlete dies twice, and this is not the END of demonstrating who you are IN THE CAGE, now it’s time to BEGIN to demonstrate who you are OUTSIDE THE CAGE.. In your true heart. And in your mind.

Start inspiring others, and showing them how you went from the dirt to Dubai.

Love you brother. Head Up. Pray. Stay off the alcohol, and for Christ’s sake, team up with Dustin and do some AMAZING Charities together. You two could start en EMPIRE of money making for GOOD. USE THE MONEY as a tool for GOOD.

Thanks for showing no fear and I’lll be prayin for ya. You ever need someone at the bottom of the mountain to talk to.. you know where to find me…
