Spending 8 hours in a hospital fiercely shifts one’s perspective. Observed several true trying times yesterday from ALL angles. Patients, families, lack of patient families, pain and suffering from patients and their families, joy and fear as new parents depart for the 1st time into the abyss of parenthood, elderly women 91 years old fell on face right outside our room….one step closer to her trip into the ultimate abyss of afterlife….patients being rushed into surgery, doctors running to elevators….and I hopefully in the middle of my timeline trying to improve my overall wellness.
But with all that all I could think about was how incredibly difficult of a career working in a hospital must be. The 12 hour shifts, being surrounded by suffering, having to tell families with a Chaplain that a loved one is gone, constant emergencies, delivering babies on one floor and retracting failed pregnancies 20 minutes later on another floor all day….
Every worker in a hospital is truly selfless and deserves the highest pay! A nurse or doctor work 12 hours then sleep 6-8 leaving 4-6 hours of life knowing they’re going back to do it all over again.
That’s “infrastructure”. If we don’t pay and support our front liners of hospitals, police, security, educators, sanitation, laborers, architects, scientists etc then where will we be?
Yet our society promotes raising wages for fast food workers to keep poor health thriving. They report climate change yet fail to report the truth that the meat and dairy industry is the worst pollution on the planet per square mile….waste, deforestation, methane emissions and transportation emissions, water usage all effects climate…media reports the problem but never the truth of the cause.
