Pat McAfee for Prez? | A New Kinda Party to Get DAHN With

The Tryin Times is dedicated to rising above expectations and representing your true self in the form of relentless pursuits of truth and improvement for self and others. I tend to write when I get a good idea about something that may help someone, when I am challenged with temptation to drink/former thought patterns of when I did, or when someone inspires me as a leader and I feel it’s worthy of keeping a record of.

This is a combo of all 3! TTT special. It’s Bills season in WNY and though my passion for the game of football has rekindled it’s not easy staying dry off booze in WNY in the fall. But, I remain inspired every day by keeping churning, keeping focused on inspiring and interesting stories and trying to keep record of them. There is an odd form of social media/journalism right now where what’s popular is considered journalism. In a way I’m trying to take what I know about the ancient art of journalism and doing my best to throw my hat in the ring, without the monetary involvement of any money. Ghandi style warfare through writing.

I watched a video of Pat McAfee this morning, which is not abnormal. His show/podcast the Pat McAfee Show is a groundbreaking 3+ hour block of time that he has occupied and not only provided to users in the form of a post-production show, but they go live on YouTube and XM satellite radio. It is a true media wonder, that arguably no podcast or show respectively can imitate. True swag cannot be replicated.

For those who don’t know, Pat McAfee is a former NFL and NCAA punter (/kicker) who started playing football later in life after being a strong soccer player. He was widely regarded for is un-punter-like spirit, chemistry-churning gravitas and strange big hits at the end of rare Colts’ punts. He was also once or twice arrested for gettin after it in the night time. He has since come out of his moments of weakness and grown into a solid journalist and host, so much so he was brought on to WWE.

I don’t watch WWE very much if at all these days, as real combat sports like UFC and BKFC and even boxing has returned with some of the similar style promotion as media legend Vince McMahaon. I used to watch WWF when Mankind Undertaker were throwing each-other from 30 feet chain link “Hell in a Cell.” I haven’t seen much of Pat on his new Smack Down announcing role, but when I heard he was going to take on that role and not walk away from the podcast it was impressive to me.

In the stork voice of Cris Collinsworth “Now Here’s a Guy…” in McAfee who is truly driven. It’s not exactly sure what it is that pushes Pat so hard, but it is clear he isn’t out to just be famous from my vantage point. I can see another side to him, behind the visage that captures the attention of millions and millions. His ability to articulate, think on the fly, and think at a high level is downright impressive.

He may not be as widely regarded as Joe Rogan, but McAfee remains tighter to the game of football than to anything else in terms of what he covers, and as we’ve seen “TV” talent like Nate Burleson move from field to NFL media to now network News media, we haven’t begun to see what McAfee next phase is.

As I scrolled through this mornings twitterverse a video of him speaking to a crahd in NYC that made me think a new thought, which led me to think about tweeting him, which led me to writing this blog instead, to better ARTICULATE and communicate my point.

The way that people talk about 9/11 is kinda weird. Some people you can tell were directly effected, and sometimes you might find a brand or person try to use an emotional event for desired effect. It’s not easy to be real about something if you weren’t directly effected. It takes a certain type of empathy and care. Something a presidential candidate needs.

I think Pat McAfee would make a terrific political candidate. A presidential candidate perhaps even someday. Maybe, even… someone who could someday start a new political party.

Politics is weird I get it, this is part one of why someone like McAfee would be perfect. We all saw and got sick of Trump, as he spiraled out of control in the mix of being famous and having to make actually important decisions. Now we see the mix of being a career crony so long that you forgot more about being a politician that you remember in Joe Biden. We have a problem with politicians in America. People don’t want to be them.

I imagine there once was a day where little boys thought “I want to be a political leader.” Political leaders are literally everywhere you look nowadays, and somehow McAfee manages to avoid speaking about politics really at all, in a world filled with it. He has a certain unwavering spirit about him that almost goes against the very nature of establishment and politics, but seems to have managed to groove into a seat at the table through respect and admiration.

Respect and admiration well deserved, as he demonstrates a lot of what we would probably think of when we thought of what a presidential candidate should be when we were little kids. Based on what we’ve seen the president become, but understanding they still need to understand the magnitude of their role and decisionmaking, sure, McAfee is NOT ready right now.

Hes only 34.

At only 34, he’s gained respect from peers at West Virginia in college, the locker room and front office of the NFL, sports media at ESPN, and now created his own brand of media empire. His influence already on sports and young adult culture is serious. His heart right now seems to be in it for all the right reasons, but what does the future hold for Pat McAfee?

I could see him continuing to grow, continuing to develop intellectually, and continuing to do his best to make this world better, happier. He finds this passion to help entertain people from somewhere, what if that passion were to be ignited to the potential of what he could be as a real world leader?

What would the un-punter-like courage and chemistry-churning gravitas do in the staunch, dusty political pillar-kingdom?

Based on the green but hungry desire to get the truth AHT there…I could see it.

The Truth Party

If we have a 2 party system, what if we just had a straight up 3rd balance party? “The Truth Party” would focus solely on the truth and constant feasting need for it to balance politics, society and culture. The Truth Party consumes all stories, but aims to tell one, regardless of society, politics or culture.

Who knows?
